LENA Chairmanship of the IEEE PES Germany Chapter

31.07.2025 -

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Martin Wolter, who heads the Chair of Electrical Power Networks and Renewable Energies at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, was recently elected chairman of the IEEE PES Germany Chapter. This group is the German branch of the internationally recognised Power and Energy Society (PES).

The Power and Energy Society is one of the oldest professional communities within the global professional association IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers). With over 40,000 members worldwide, it is one of the most important networks in the field of power supply. The IEEE itself is the world's largest engineering association and has approximately 400,000 members in more than 160 countries, specialising in electrical engineering and computer science. The main focus of the Power and Energy Society is to promote safe, reliable, efficient and sustainable energy systems – from the generation to the application of electrical energy. The emphasis here is on renewable energies, smart grids and the development of technical standards. The IEEE PES is responsible for developing approximately half of all international electrical engineering standards. In addition, the society promotes the exchange of knowledge between science and industry, organises conferences and symposiums, and publishes internationally recognised journals.
