In the PROGRESS project, curative measures for load relief in extra-high and high-voltage networks are being tested. Curative measures correspond to a reactive adjustment of actuators in the network for the targeted influencing of voltages and currents after the actual occurrence of a fault. The existing network can thus be utilized more efficiently and the proportion of preventive congestion management measures can be reduced. The use of curatively relieving measures by means of automatic systems requires a comprehensive analysis and expansion of the existing system architecture at network control level, station control level and in the field. In addition, the linking of network operation management with operational planning processes and the coordination between transmission and distribution system operators must be taken into account. The need for research results from the requirements for a safe, efficient and cross-network operator use of curative measures. In this project, therefore, relevant software and hardware components of electrical energy transmission and distribution at extra-high and high-voltage networks are analyzed, corresponding functional models for the implementation of curative measures are developed and transferred to prototypical applications against the background of cross-network operator coordination. With the participation of a control system manufacturer, transmission and distribution network operators as well as academic partners, the implementation of curative measures is tested within field tests in real control system environments. Furthermore, there is an analytical support for this practical test. In addition to the communication-related realization of signal chains, the consideration of stationary and dynamic network security calculations, the addressing of new methods for determining the network status and limit value determination in online operation, the coordination between TSO/TSO and TSO/DSO is focused.

The LENA chair at the OVGU deals specifically with the evaluation of data from modern Phasor Measurement Units (PMU). In contrast to the previous measured values , this data is time-synchronous via satellite connection and enables an additional measurement of the voltage angle in the electrical network. Furthermore, measured values are made possible in a very high resolution, which makes dynamic processes in the network measurable and thus enables curative measures to be called up at short term with the help of dynamic state estimation.

A tool to be developed for the evaluation of PMU data is also to be implemented and validated directly in the control center of the chair in cooperation with the company PSI (control center manufacturer). A final application in a field test should validate the tool for realistic applicability.
