IEEE General Meeting 2017

27.07.2017 -

From the 16th to the 20th of July there was the General Meeting form IEEE PES in Chicago, where experts from the field of Power Electronics met. The latest research activities and the newest project from the industry were introduced and discussed. Some of the interesting topics from this conference were HVDC systems, measurement equipment, transmission and distribution systems and new market mechanisms.

The LENA was at this conference with the head of the chair and two scientific assistants. André Richter was introducing his research results, published in an IEEE paper, at a poster session. The topic of his publication is “Renewable Energy Forecasting Optimization for System Operator and Trader". Eric Glende had a presentation on a Panel Session form Prof. Westermann (TU Ilmenau) with the title “Advances in HVDC Station Control”. He presented the core theme and some results from the project DynaGridCenter, where a control center of the future is built.

At the General Meeting with nearly 3000 attendees there is a good possibility for social networking. Especially the connection to other German universities were maintained and there was a busy communication about the latest research activities. But also the contact to the industry was important to get new ideas for the research and maybe some new cooperation projects.

Chicago is a beautiful city at the Lake Michigan and there was some time to visit highly recommended places of interests and enjoy the local food, even if there were a lot of interesting presentations and workshops. A highlight was the visit in a Jazz bar, since Chicago is the city of Blues and Jazz.

The LENA is willing to present some new results from our research activities at the next IEEE PES General Meeting in 2018 in Portland.
