PESS-Conference 2019 in Magdeburg

11.07.2019 -

From July 9th to 11th, the 20th Power and Energy Student Summit (PESS) took place in the Lukasklause (Magdeburg). More than 50 participants took part in the scientific exchange near the river Elbe. Numerous young engineers present recent scientific findings to the trade public in presentations of their scientific work. The conference was headed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Martin Wolter of the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg.

In several sessions, the participants presented a wide range of energy technology, so that the conference could provide new incentives for subsequent investigations, which was also evident in the discussion rounds.

The best participants were honored with the following three prizes:

Best Paper Award:

Friederike Thomas (TU Dresden, "Robust and Optimized Voltage Droop Control considering the Voltage Error")

Best Poster Award:

Raphael Houben (RWTH Aachen, "Integrated Optimization of Large Scale Power and Gas Flow Problems")

Best Presentation Award:

Jan Wiesner (TU Chemnitz, "Life-cycle analysis of the climate impact of present high-voltage direct current transmission systems")

In addition to the presentations and poster presentations, the participants also got to know two laboratories at the LENA and thus had an insight into the current research work of the chair. The program was rounded by an excursion to the Wolmirstedt substation and a city tour at night through Magdeburg.

Special thanks also go to the sponsors of the conference, through whose participation this was possible in the first place and the complete organizational team of the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg, in particular Mr. Sebastian Helm.
