Dissertation award for Dr.-Ing. Marc Richter

The annual academic ceremony to mark the jubilee of the birth of Otto von Guericke, who gave his name to the university, was held on November 17th at the Johannes Kirche Magdeburg. At this event, outstanding researchers are honored for their achievements in science and education. Important awards are:

  • Best research (award winner: Prof. Thévenin, Laboratory of Fluid Dynamics and Technical Flows)
  • Best education (award winner: Prof. Knabe, Chair of Public Economics)
  • Best early-stage researcher (award winner: Dr. Anne Schumacher, Medical Faculty)

The award for the best dissertation of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology went to Dr.-Ing. Marc Richter from the Chair of Electric Power Networks and Renewable Energy for his work entitled “PMU-basierte Zustandsabschätzung in Smart Distribution”. His report is about the first use of Phasor Measurement Units (PMU) in the distribution network for state estimation purpose and wide area monitoring.
Prof. Martin Wolter and his colleagues accompanied him on that evening (see figure). They all took advantage of the opportunity to do some networking in an comfortable atmosphere while the very successful evening came to an end.
